The Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) is excited to announce that Sarah Lang will be stepping into the newly created role of Capacity Program Coordinator beginning July 1, 2024. The creation of this role is a direct response to the capacity concerns voiced throughout our region, and a major prioritization as one of the top focus areas outlined in the NBRC’s five-year strategic plan.

“Capacity is foremost in nearly every conversation we have with stakeholders in the region. While the NBRC isn’t able to solve every aspect of this complex issue, we are excited to support our region’s efforts in this area through the talent of our staff. Sarah Lang has been working on capacity issues during her time with the NBRC, and in her previous work in the region, and I look forward to learning how her outreach and engagement guides our future capacity investments,” said NBRC Executive Director Rich Grogan.

“One of the keys to unlocking the potential of rural places is ensuring they have access to the tools that will help them turn ideas into reality. The Commission recognizes we have a role to play in this space and are incredibly excited that Sarah will be leading our capacity efforts to help communities do just that. Sarah is an experienced and knowledgeable member of our team and the entire region is going to benefit from her leadership,” added Chris Saunders, Federal Co-Chair of NBRC.

Prior to joining the NBRC, Sarah served in a capacity-focused role in Southern Vermont, and for the past two years, Sarah has worked as a NBRC Program Specialist, a position that relies heavily on collaboration and an in-depth understanding of the grant making lifecycle. She has established a close working relationship with our Local Development Districts (LDDs) and has a deep knowledge and enthusiasm for capacity-building work, making her well equipped to establish a robust program to address one of our region’s most pressing needs. In her new role, she will work towards expanding development pathways, creating learning networks, and setting up spaces to share best practices.

“I am so thrilled to be taking on this role at NBRC,” Lang said. She added, “Rural capacity is a passion of mine and I look forward to coordinating with local, regional, and state partners in our service area.”
